World’s leading offshore wind developer Ørsted has officially opened its office in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Ørsted holds a lease to develop an offshore wind farm ten nautical miles off Atlantic City. The Ocean Wind project will be built on a 160,480-acre site located in federal waters.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ørsted North America President Thomas Brostrøm was reported by media as saying that the Ocean Wind project had received site assessment plan approval from the US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) that same day.

The approval allows the developer to deploy metocean equipment at the site to measure wind speeds and wave heights and enable the siting of the offshore wind turbines.

Ørsted hopes to see the wind farm up and running in the early 2020s , Brostrøm was reported as saying.

New Jersey plans to have 3.5GW of operating capacity by 2030, with the initial solicitation calling for 1.1GW of offshore wind capacity to be developed.
