South Korea’s LNG imports up in April YoY

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports into South Korea rose 38.6 percent in April year-on-year, according to the customs data.

The country received 3.22 million tonnes of LNG last month, as compared to 2.32 million tonnes in the corresponding month the year before.

The data shows that South Korea paid an average of $9.32 per mmBtu for LNG last month. This compares to $7.88 per mmBtu in April last year.

Qatar, the world’s top LNG exporter, remained the dominant source of South Korean imports with 972,250 mt of the chilled fuel imported from Qatar in April.

Australia was the second-largest LNG supplier to Korea last month with 448,144 mt.

The remaining volumes imported into South Korea were sourced from Oman, Malaysia, Indonesia, Russia, Peru, USA and Angola.
