The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, will host an Industry Day for small business government contractors June 20, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the district’s headquarters building in Galveston, Texas.

The purpose of the event is to present upcoming work for fiscal year 2019, help small businesses navigate through the contracting process, provide an opportunity for companies to network and meet potential vendors and subcontractors as well as to maximize interest in the district’s contracting requirements.

“ We consider small business to be the heart of the U.S. economy and a vital part of the Corps’ procurement process ,” said Shamekia Chapman, USACE Galveston District Deputy for Small Business Programs . “ Industry Day will allow attendees to network and share lessons learned, success stories and contracting best practices and provide a venue to learn about potential future partnership opportunities.”

The one-day event will include morning sessions and an open forum in the afternoon for participants to meet with district staff from the Operations and Maintenance Division, Engineering and Construction Division and architecture subject matter experts.

According to Chapman, the USACE Galveston District has a diverse mission that encompasses primarily civil works projects; the bulk of projects are dredging or dredging-related requirements such as levee repair, hydrographic surveying, dredged materials placement area repair, soils and water testing.
