Dutch company OOS International has started construction of a semi-submersible crane vessel (SSCV) OOS Walcheren in China.
The steel cutting ceremony was held on Thursday in China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) on the 24th May 2018. This is the second newbuild SSCV ordered by OOS International at China Merchants Heavy Industry so far.
Thie vessel is identical to her sister vessel OOS Serooskerke which is currently under construction at China Merchants in Haimen and due for delivery in mid-2019.
The company said the OOS Walcheren would be delivered in the first quarter 2020, “which will provide sufficient time to capture the lessons learned and enhancements from her sister vessel OOS Serooskerke.”
The SSCV series are multi-purpose, heavy lifting vessels which can perform decommissioning work, windmill installations, offshore accommodation as well as modular plug and abandonment.
An OOS SSCV be able to accommodate 750 people and will be equipped with two heavy lift Huisman cranes with a total tandem lift capacity of 4,400t with subsea lifting and active compensation capability.
