Offshore contractor Jan De Nul has installed the last foundation of Ørsted’s offshore wind farm Borkum Riffgrund 2 in German territorial waters.

The jack-up vessel Vole au vent was used to execute the project.

In 2016, Jan De Nul secured a contract with Ørsted (formerly Dong Energy) for the transport and installation of 36 monopiles and transition pieces for the offshore wind farm Borkum Riffgrund 2.

Additionally, the Group was also awarded the supply, transport and installation of scour protection for all foundations.

Borkum Riffgrund 2 is located approximately 57 kilometers off the north-west coast of Germany, next to the 312MW Borkum Riffgrund 1 offshore wind farm. It will have a total export capacity of 450MW, and will feature 56 units of MHI Vestas’ 8MW wind turbines.

In addition to the 36 monopiles, the remaining turbines will be set up on 20 suction bucket jacket foundations, with ST3 Offshore, Harland and Wolff (H&W) and GeoSea tasked with this project.

The wind farm is expected to be fully commissioned in the first half of 2019.
