French company Sabella has been accepted to the acceleration program for French companies with an interest in Australian maritime market as it looks to develop tidal energy projects down under.
The Breton tidal developer plans to move forward on first promising off grid projects with a focus on aboriginal far-flung communities and remote industrial or mining sites, mainly off the northern shore of Australia where the tidal resource is substantial, the company said.
Sabella’s plans will be facilitated by the Maritime Connection Days program that offers eight innovative French companies an intensive acceleration to set up presence in the Australian maritime market and enhance their chances to find future partners.
As part of the program, for which Sabella secured admittance earlier in May, the selected companies will over the course of 10 months receive personalized training, individual coaching and boot camp sessions in France to more effectively tackle the Australian market.
According to Sabella, it is looking for industrial and strategic partners to deploy first projects on a short-term basis.
“From a mid-term point of view, Australia is an open door to the market of insular countries in the Pacific Ocean and an opportunity for an industrial deployment to meet the ASEAN and domestic market,” Sabella said.
To remind, Sabella is a member of the steering committee of the Australian Marine Energy Taskforce (AMET), launched in 2017, by nine tidal and wave energy companies to accelerate the commercialization of marine renewable energy technologies in Australia.
