South Korea’s Samsung Heavy industry has confirmed securing the order for four shuttle tankers worth $360 million.

The order comes from Singapore’s AET, and is linked to its recent contract to lease four new shuttle tankers to Brazil’s Petrobras.

Shuttle tankers are used for transporting oil from offshore fields to land-based terminals

According to AET, the four 152,000 DWT DP2 shuttle tankers will be built by a Korean shipyard for delivery in 2020 and will be contracted to Petrobras for operations in international and Brazilian waters.

AET said that the vessels, compliant to IMO NOx Tier 3 requirement, would be built in accordance with Petrobras’ latest technical requirement for DP2 shuttle tankers and installed with a ballast water treatment system.
