The university in French northwestern city of Caen – ESITC – has inaugurated marine test facility equipped with a 40-meter long flume tank.
The one-meter and one-and-a-half meters deep test tank features a wave generator capable of modeling real sea conditions with waves heights reaching up to of 15 meters, according to ESITC.
Designed to accommodate physical modelling tests, the test tank is said to be suitable for marine research and development work, coastal work studies, and port engineering research.
In addition to ESITC, the project has been funded by the Normandy region, and public institutions CEREMA, DGPR and DGITM.
The university said it will have free access to the wave channel as part of the student training, and for the provision of services to companies, as well as for studies performed with its academic and industrial partners.
