Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB) launched an inquiry against former prime ministers Nawaz Sharif and Khaqan Abbasi in relation to irregularities on an LNG project.
According to the NAB’s statement, the inquiry will look into the alleged misuse of authority and illegal awarding of an LNG terminal contract to a favorite company for 15 years without completion of all formalities.
“They have been accused of inflicting billions of losses to national exchequer,” the statement reads.
The National Accountability Bureau is currently led by the caretaker government after the five-year term for the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) ended.
NAB has launched inquiries into a number of other officials following a meeting of the executive board on Wednesday.
Speaking to Reuters, Khaqan Abbasi said he is not aware of the inquiry but noted he will provide full cooperation to the NAB.
