ABPmer has expanded its metocean information service SeaStates with Global Data Explorer, which provides access to the world’s wind and wave climate, as well as metocean analyses and statistics.

According to ABPmer, the launch of the Global Data Explorer adds to the company’s existing portfolio of metocean data and information services and having expanded SeaStates it harnesses the power of webGIS technologies and provides direct access to some of its datasets.

“We listened to industry and recognised that although metocean data exists in the public domain it isn’t always in a usable format. By sharing it freely on our Data Explorer we hope to democratise access to what is considered a powerful resource,” Damon O’Brien , Managing Director at ABPmer, said.

Delivered in 2013, SeaStates comprises tools that can be used to characterize the conditions at any place of interest, the company said, adding that it also contains a database of historic wind and wave conditions from 1979 with a hindcast of shelf-scale tide and surge added to the package last year.

The metocean system also offers the weather downtime express service, which was launched in 2015 and used to plan any operations restricted by weather and/or seastate condition.
