Madrid-based Gas Natural Fenosa received the first shipment of Yamal liquefied natural gas (LNG) under a long-term deal with Novatek at Reganosa’s Mugardos LNG terminal.
Natural Gas Fenosa said in a statement the delivery of 172,600 cubic meters of the chilled fuel was made by the Arctic LNG carrier Fedor Litke. It is the first out of 37 tankers that will be delivered under the contract until 2041.
The deal, signed in 2013 is valued at over €30 billion ($34.8 billion), will see the delivery of 3 billion cubic meters per year to Gas Natural Fenosa, representing 8 percent of the Spanish annual natural gas consumption.
The three-train Yamal LNG plant, designed to produce about 16.5 million tonnes per year, started liquefying natural gas from the South Tambey field on the Yamal Peninsula in December.
The facility is currently producing at about 109 percent capacity or close to 6 million tonnes per annum Novatek’s finance chief Mark Gyetvay told LNG World News in an interview .
He added that the shareholders in the $27 billion Yamal LNG project, France’s Total, China’s CNPC and Silk Road Fund in addition to the project operator Novatek, have also approved the fourth train with a 900,000 tonnes per year production capacity.
Gas Natural Fenosa said the volumes delivered by the ice-class LNG carrier will be used to supply southwestern Europe.
