The United States Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued a draft environmental impact statement (EIS) for Venture Global LNG’s Calcasieu Pass project in Cameron Parish, Louisiana.

Venture Global LNG is developing a gas liquefaction facility with 12 mtpa of LNG production capacity.

The draft EIS assesses the potential environmental effects of the construction and operation of the Calcasieu Pass project in accordance with the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act.

FERC said in its notice the approval of the proposed project would have some adverse environmental impacts; however, all of these impacts would be reduced to less-than-significant levels with the implementation of Venture Global Calcasieu Pass’ and the accompanying TransCameron pipeline’s proposed mitigation measures and the additional measures recommended in the draft EIS.

The commission invited comments on the draft EIS to be submitted by August 13.

Venture Global LNG has already agreed to supply 6 mtpa of LNG under binding 20-year deals with the likes of BP, Shell, Edison and Galp.
