Starting on the 4th of July, two new public consultations will be launched which will begin to help shape an exciting future for one of the Portsmouth’s most cherished assets.

The first consultation will be on options for new sea defenses along 4.5km of seafront, from Old Portsmouth to Eastney.

“ The Southsea Coastal Scheme team will have lots more sketches and visualizations of their ideas, and they’ll be asking the public for help with some big decisions ,” the Portsmouth City Council said.

These include how some of the seafront roads could be used in the future and how the new defenses could look near South Parade Pier.

The public also be able to sign-up to workshops where they can interrogate the emerging designs with the help of experts, who will explain the opportunities and constraints in each area.

Running in parallel will be the beginning of a review of council’s existing seafront masterplan. This strategy is known as a ‘supplementary planning document’, which is intended to guide improvements to this area of the city.

Staff from the council’s planning team will be on hand to collect feedback at all of the consultation venues. This approach will ensure that all the opportunities that are created by the construction of the new sea defenses can be realized in the future.
