The world’s largest shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries Co may be faced with a dry spell in the offshore shipbuilding sector, but orders from the oil and gas sector keep coming in.
Specifically, the conglomerate’s Hyundai Mipo Dockyard secured an order from an unnamed U.S. shipowner for two petrochemical product carriers.
The contract is worth USD 74.5 million, the company said in a regulatory filing.
The duo is scheduled for completion in 2019.
Separately, Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries has been linked to another order from Japanese NYK Line.
According to Asiasis, the Japanese owner has ordered an LNG carrier intended for a charter with EDF LNG Shipping Ltd., a subsidiary of Electricité de France (EDF).
The delivery date has been set for April, 2020.
The order comes on the heels of the construction contract with Hyundai Samho reported back in January when NYK Line ordered a 174,000 cbm LNG carrier for EDF.
The newbuild secured a seven-year charter with the company, with optional extension periods for up to 13 additional years.
The vessel is due to be delivered by April 30, 2020.
