Van Oord’s cable lay vessel Nexus has loaded the final set of inter-array cables for the Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind farm and is currently installing them at the site in the German North Sea.

The cable lay works at Ørsted’s 450MW wind farm are expected to be completed by 7 August, Van Oord said.

Nexus started installing the inter-array cables at the wind farm in April. The contract also includes the installation of interlink cables to the adjacent Borkum Riffgrund 1 offshore substation. The cables were manufactured by Nexans.

Located 54 kilometres off the coast of Lower Saxony and next to the 312MW Borkum Riffgrund 1, Borkum Riffgrund 2 will comprise 56 MHI Vestas 8MW wind turbines, expected to be fully commissioned in 2019.
