Rotech Subsea has launched a new cable grab system, which recently debuted at an offshore wind project in the North Sea.

According to the UK-based company, the RSG1 tool was used for a cable repair during an installation on the undisclosed project.

The new tool is said to offer cable deburial, cutting, grabbing, recovery and backfilling services, and can be applied to umbilical recovery, pipeline recovery and rock removal/relocation.

RSG1 can operate in depths of up to 200m with a grab diameter of 50-1100mm and a grip force of 50kN, Rotech Subsea said.

“As well as deburying cable we can now lift the cable for repair meaning we are a one-stop shop for clients. This – along with the tool being deployed with two skilled operators, allowing for 24-hour operation – brings increased economies for clients,” said Director of Rotech Subsea, Stephen Cochrane .

“The RSG1 – which was recently successfully deployed for a key client in the North Sea – boasts real-time sonar monitoring with subsea camera and lights. It can also be used for umbilical or pipe-line recovery, as well as rock removal and relocation.”
