Taiwan International Ports Corp. (TIPC) and the Changhua County Government have signed an agreement to jointly construct and develop an offshore wind operations & maintenance hub at the Taichung Port.

Taiwan has recently allocated 5.5GW of offshore wind capacity to be developed by 2025. Around 75% of the projects selected, accounting for around of 4GW of the capacity allocated, is located offshore the Changhua County.

The agreement is part of the government’s plan to develop a complete local offshore wind power supply chain.

Last year, TIPC and Taipower signed an agreement to develop three sites at the Port of Taichung to support offshore wind farm construction and O&M. Works on the sites started in June 2017.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Executive Yuan had previously identified the Taichung Port as an optimal port to support offshore wind farm construction works in Taiwan.

The port has also attracted major wind turbine manufacturers such as Siemens Gamesa and MHI Vestas Offshore Wind .
