QinetiQ North America (QNA) has been awarded a sole-source contract from the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Panama City Division (NSWC PCD), to demonstrate advanced sidescan sonar technology.

This contract will leverage QinetiQ North America’s patented DOLPHIN technology to demonstrate full swath coverage in eliminating the Nadir (gap) that exists with current sidescan sonar systems.

DOLPHIN is a full duplex, underwater acoustic technology that makes it possible for collaborative and interoperable, continuous sonar signals by enabling Simultaneous Transmit and Receive (STAR) acoustic sonar operations.

“ This award provides us an opportunity to work in partnership with the US Navy to demonstrate this revolutionary, enabling technology to support significantly improved performance of subsea acoustics systems, ” said Mike Fry , vice president, Strategy and Business Development for Maritime Systems at QinetiQ North America. “We are very pleased and honored to be part of this significant technology demonstration.”
