Ørsted and the Taiwanese Century Wind Power (CWP) have cut the first steel for the jacket foundation transition piece mock-up.
CWP is working with Bladt Industries on the construction of the mock-up, as part of a joint venture established as CWP’s subsidiary.
The Danish company placed the order for the mock-up in March, which marked the first manufacturing order signed in Taiwan since the government dedicated to developing the local supply chain for offshore wind.
The project is expected to enable CWP to become more mature and ready for full-scale construction of jacket foundations for the local offshore wind market, as well as Ørsted’s Greater Changhua project , for which the two parties are collaborating on turbine foundation manufacturing.
The delivery of the transition piece is expected in the second half of the year.
Located 35 to 60km off the coast, Ørsted’s Changhua offshore wind project comprises four sites with an expected combined capacity of 2.4GW.
In April, the company secured the right to connect 900MW of offshore wind capacity to Taiwan’s power grid, which includes the 605MW Changua 1 and the 295MW Changhua 2.
