Spain’s imports of liquefied natural gas percent dropped 13.9 percent in July on a yearly basis as pipeline supplies from Algeria rose 40.5 percent, according to the data provided by the LNG terminal operator, Enagás.
LNG imports reached some 13.4 terawatt hours (TWh) in July as compared to 15.6 TWh in the same month the year before, the Enagás data shows.
Total natural gas imports, including piped supplies, dropped 1.4 percent to 29.2 TWh. Pipeline supplies from Algeria increased 40.5 percent on year to 13.5 TWh.
Peru was the biggest LNG supplier to Spain last month with some 4 TWh, followed by Nigeria with 2.9 TWh and Qatar that supplied almost 2.7 TWh. Peruvian LNG volumes rose 50 percent when compared to July in 2017 while Qatari volumes dropped 40.1 percent on the year.
The rest of Spain’s July LNG imports were sourced from Trinidad and Tobago (1.7 TWh), Russia (1.1 TWh) and Algeria (o.9 TWh), according to the Enagás data.
The Barcelona regasification plant received five LNG cargoes out of the total 11 cargoes imported into Spain during the month under review. The Barcelona facility also shipped two cargoes of previously imported LNG during the month under review.
Huelva and Bilbao received three LNG cargoes in July, each. The Bilbao terminal also handled one reload last month, the data says.
