EEX Group, part of the Deutsche Boerse Group, confirmed on Wednesday it is looking into launching an exchange product for the liquefied natural gas (LNG) market.

Reuters reported last week, citing EEX Group’s CEO Peter Reitz as saying, that the bourse was working with industry participants to develop the LNG contract with plans to launch it by the end of this year.

“We’re exploring the opportunities for an LNG exchange contract in order to complement our offer of natural gas products,” an EEX Group spokeswoman told LNG World News in an emailed comment on Wednesday.

“However, we haven’t officially announced the LNG roadmap yet – other than to say it’s on the horizon, with contracts potentially launching this year,” the spokeswoman said.

Leipzig-based EEX Group provides a platform for energy and commodity products for participants in more than 30 countries worldwide, according to its website.

Besides energy, the offering of the group comprises contracts for environmentals, freight, metals and agriculturals.
