Greece-based owner and operator GasLog Ltd has launched the construction of its 180,000 cbm liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier at South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI).
On August 1, the company cut the steel for its unit with hull number 2213. GasLog placed the order for the vessel in January 2018.
At the time, the company said that the carrier was secured “at a very attractive cost”.
The construction deal is worth around KRW 210 billion (USD 195 million), Samsung Heavy Industries earlier said.
Featuring XDF propulsion and the latest cargo containment technology, the new vessel is expected to join GasLog’s fleet in the third quarter of 2019.
According to data provided by VesselsValue, the company has four more large LNG carriers under construction at SHI. Two of these are scheduled for delivery to their owner in 2019, while the remaining two would be handed over in 2020.
