Carnival Cruise Line, part of Carnival Corporation, has reached an agreement with the Canaveral Port Authority to make it the homeport for its LNG-powered liner.

The agreement would see the construction of a new terminal capable of accommodating the 180,000-ton vessel set to debut in 2020, the company said.

If the terms of the agreement are approved by the Canaveral Port Authority Board of Commissioners Port Canaveral will become the vessel’s home port.

Construction of the 180,000-ton cruise ship is scheduled to begin in November 2018 with the official steel-cutting ceremony at the Meyer-Werft shipyard in Turku, Finland.

The line currently has three year-round ships based in Port Canaveral, and in October it will reposition the newer Carnival Breeze to homeport at Port Canaveral.
