OHVS safely arrived on site. But how are we going to put this massive transformer station onto the yellow monopile?? #norther #norther_wind #owf #proudlypoweredbywind pic.twitter.com/mWMv1wr5p6

The substation will soon be placed on top of its monopile foundation, which was installed earlier.

The Norther OHVS, built by a consortium comprising ENGIE Fabricom, Smulders and CG, has been transported from ENGIE Fabricom’s yard in Hoboken to the offshore construction site by Osprey Valliant and Multratug 20.

The substation is 32 metres long and 21 metres tall, it weighs 1,300 tonnes and has a transformer capacity of 410MV.

The power generated by 44 MHI Vestas 8.4MW wind turbines (33kV) will be transported to the substation, where it will be converted to a voltage of 220kV and then delivered to the land through one cable.

The ENGIE Fabricom-Smulders-CG consortium was awarded the OHVS contract by Van Oord, the Balance of Plant contractor for the Norther project.

Van Oord is responsible for the engineering, procurement, delivery and installation of the foundations for the wind turbines, the offshore high-voltage station and the entire electrical infrastructure, and the installation of the wind turbines.

Offshore works on the Norther offshore wind farm, located some 23km off the port of Zeebrugge, started in May.
