A seismic survey carried out by Eastern Echo DMCC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Schlumberger, has started offshore Sri Lanka.
The 2D survey will be conducted under the agreement signed between Government of Sri Lanka and Eastern Echo DMCC in May, 2018.
The seismic vessel BGP Pioneer will execute the work in three basins – Mannar, Kaveri and Lanka.
According to reports, the inauguration ceremony for the start up of the operations was held under the patronage of Arjuna Ranatunga, Minister of Petroleum Resources Development of Sri Lanka, who signed the contract in May.
The main objective of entering into this agreement is to acquire more petroleum data using modern acquisition and processing techniques, and thereby reduce the technical and financial risk of prospective investors in deep water exploration in Sri Lanka, Ministry of Petroleum Resources Development said earlier.
Following the completion of the acquisition, the survey data will be sent to the Schlumberger office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for processing.
