The U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is holding a task force meeting to review and discuss the issuance of a Call for Information and Nominations on areas for potential offshore wind leasing in California.

The California Intergovernmental Renewable Energy Task Force will take place on 17 September in The Citizen Hotel in Sacramento, California, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. local time.

The members of the public are welcome to attend and will have an opportunity to provide input on the potential leasing.

BOEM established the task force in 2016 to promote planning and coordination, and to facilitate review of requests for commercial and research leases and right-of-way grants for power cables on the Federal outer continental shelf (OCS), which begins three nautical miles offshore California. Members of the Task Force include representatives of federal, state and local government agencies, as well as tribal government.

The agency and the State of California are working together with stakeholders to identify and collect data and information on the state’s coast to inform the offshore wind planning process.

The German EnBW and Seattle-based Trident Winds recently formed a joint venture to develop a floating wind project off the coast of Central California. The Morro Bay wind farm will comprise up to 100 turbines with a net capacity of 650MW.
