Peter Döhle Schiffahrts-KG, a German provider of maritime services, has signed an agreement with Erma First, a Greek manufacturer of Ballast Water Treatment Systems (BWTS) for the installation of BWTS onboard its vessels at this year’s SMM trade fair.
Erma First is represented in Germany by MOE Marine & Offshore Equipment, who has handled the project during the last 18 months.
The company ‘s fleet of managed vessels includes large container vessels, feeder vessels, bulk carriers, multi-purpose vessels and coasters. The latest contract is intended, but not limited to, containerships and bulk carriers, Erma First said.
“Our aim is to provide a full service package that includes regulation compliance, low capital costs, system operation simplicity, low energy requirements and a vast after sales support network, in order to make sure that both parties remain satisfied and our mutual benefits are met,” Konstantinos Stampedakis, Managing Director of Erma First said.
Another German owner opted for Erma First’s technology earlier this year. Namely, in May 2018, Germany’s dry bulk shipowner Oldendorff Carriers teamed up with Erma First to make its ships compliant with the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments.
The convention entered into force on September 8, 2017 and aims to halt the spread of invasive aquatic species, which can impact local ecosystems, affecting biodiversity.
The Erma First BWTS FIT is USCG type approved and IMO approved for nearly all water types. The BWTS is suitable for small and large ballast-pump capacities, according to its manufacturer.
