Greek-owner Empire Navigation has lifted the option for additional four medium range (MR) product tankers at South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, pushing the orderbook to eight ships.
As World Maritime News reported back in July, the company placed an order for four 50,000 dwt MRs with the Korean shipbuilder, and had an option to boost its order to eight units.
This was a debut for the Greek shipping company in the tanker market.
The order for four additional ships emerged on Asiasis earlier today, showing the delivery dates set for 2019. It was also confirmed by Intermodal, saying the ships will be Tier III compliant and that the delivery has been set for 2020.
The newbuilding series is intended for Swiss freight trader Cargill, the company’s spokesperson confirmed to World Maritime News. Further details on the price and potential charter length have not been disclosed.
