Magseis, a Norwegian geophysical company, has received a letter of intent (LOI) for an ocean bottom seismic survey in the Americas.
Magseis said on Friday that the letter of intent was for full-scale operations using the company’s proprietary MASS nodes.
Based on the availability of the nodes, the operation will begin at the latest in the first quarter of 2019 and last for approximately two months.
Magseis CEO, Per Christian Grytnes , said: “We are very pleased to be trusted with our first project in the Americas, further expanding Magseis global footprint.
“Oil companies have expressed interest over time to get improved seismic images before deciding on how to optimize their drilling campaigns. We take comfort that this interest is gaining momentum into tangible seismic surveys which traditionally have been done with more conventional seismic techniques other than ocean bottom nodes (OBN).
“This LOI makes us confident that Magseis will increase its relative market share and in addition address a much larger market which used to be dominated by more traditional seismic techniques.”
MASS consists of ultra-compact 4C sensor capsules, fully automated handling systems, and data download.
Magseis’ sensor weighs just over 8 kilograms and has a recording time of 65 days, while its latest edition, the MASS III node, has a recording time of up 150 days.
In recent company news, Magseis was granted an extension for a cable operation in the Middle East last month .
