The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities will consider inviting bids for the development of up to 1,100MW of offshore wind capacity next week, the New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy said during the Global Climate Action Summit in San Francisco.

The opening of the Offshore Wind Energy Certificate (OREC) application window for 1,100MW of offshore wind capacity is part of the NJBPU’s agenda for a board meeting on Monday, 17 September.

Governor Murphy also called for future solicitations of 1,200MW in 2020 and 2022 to achieve the state’s goal of developing 3,500MW of offshore wind capacity by 2030, the most ambitious target in the US.

”Every day that we don’t act to reverse the effects of climate change, we abandon our economic, social, and moral obligations to create a clean environment for future generations. NJ will continue leading the charge to combat climate change in the absence of federal leadership,” Governor Murphy said.

NJBPU is preparing the solicitation of the initial 1,100MW goal of offshore wind capacity and has engaged offshore wind developers and stakeholders in defining minimum requirements for the solicitation.
