Norwegian oil firm Equinor will use the Deepsea Bergen semi-submersible drilling rig for the permanent plugging of well 20/2-1 at Huldra field offshore Norway. The company has received the consent for the operation from the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority.

Huldra is located in the North Sea, 16 kilometers west of the Veslefrikk field. The field was proven in 1982, and the plan for development and operation (PDO) was approved in 1999. The field was developed using a wellhead platform including a simple process facility and was remotely controlled from Veslefrikk B.

Production started in 2001 and was terminated in 2014.

Equinor is the operator for production the licenses 051 and 052B.

“We have now given the company consent to use Deepsea Bergen for a permanent plugback of exploration well 30/2-1 on the Huldra field,” the safety body said on Monday.

The operation is scheduled to start in mid-October 2018 and is estimated to last 26 days. Well 30/2-1 is on the Huldra field, between the Oseberg and Kvitebjørn fields in the northern North Sea. Water depth at the site is 125 meters.

The well is to be plugged by Deepsea Bergen, which is a semi-submersible mobile drilling rig owned by Odfjell Drilling.
