Steelhead LNG, a Vancouver-based LNG export project developer, has readied a contract with Huu-ay-aht First nations and Hyundai Heavy Industries for LNG hulls FEED for the Kwispaa project on Vancouver Island.

The company said the agreement is a milestone for the Kwispaa LNG project proposed for the west coast of Vancouver Island in Canada, and follows the recent invitation to tender to three shortlisted EPC contractors for the FEED work on the At-Shore LNG topsides, marine facilities, pre-treatment, and balance of onshore plant facilities.

Steelhead LNG noted that all the FEED work on the two hulls is expected to start in early 2019.

Steelhead LNG and Huu-ay-aht First Nations are co-managing the development of the proposed Kwispaa LNG project, formerly known as Sarita LNG.

The liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility will be located at Sarita Bay on Vancouver Island. It is the only Canadian LNG project being developed through a co-management relationship between industry and First Nations.

The project has secured National Energy Board (NEB) approval to export up to 24 million tons of LNG from the project for a period of 25 years.
