Hoyer Group, the Hamburg-based logistics, has taken delivery of an LNG-fueled Iveco truck for its trial project starting in October.

In cooperation with Total Deutschland, Hoyer’s business unit Petrolog will trial the LNG-fueled truck when making deliveries to Total’s service stations in the Hamburg and Bremen region from October onwards, Hoyer said in a statement.

Speaking of the reasons to launch the trial project, managing director of the business unit Petrolog in the Hoyer Group, Mark Binns , said, “Despite being more expensive to buy, we are convinced by the truck’s positive environmental and operational benefits.”

The company aims to reduce its CO2 emission produced by vehicle operation by 25 percent per ton-kilometer by 2020.

The LNG-fueled truck will deliver fuel to Total’s stations that Hoyer has been servicing since 2016.

Total’s logistics director Stefan Küfner noted the company is increasingly involving itself in using LNG in the transport of goods by road. He added the cooperation with Hoyer will provide Total with further experience in the daily use of LNG trucks.

The truck, which has been configured specifically for deliveries to service stations, will be tested in existing intensive delivery operations over the next six months, Hoyer said.
