Marseille-based La Méridionale, a French ferry operator, joined forces with Air Flow to provide electricity from LNG for its vessels in the ports of Ajaccio, Bastia and Propriano.
Air Flow said in its statement that the electricity for the ferry operator’s vessels, while at port would be generated from a solution using liquefied natural gas as fuel.
Last week the partnership started a 15-day test of the LNG-to power solution at the port of Ajaccio.
Since 2016, ships docked in the port of Marseille connect directly to the electricity grid, however, this is not possible at the ports in Corsica.
The solution has been developed as a response to La Méridionale’s efforts to cut emissions from its operations.
