The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ beach re-nourishment operations along Myrtle Beach, S.C., following Hurricane Florence, are moving forward.
These operations, undertaken by Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company (GLDD), are designed to help rehabilitate shorelines in order to mitigate the risk of storm-related damage to coastal communities and infrastructure.
This project was part of rehabilitation efforts from previous hurricanes, but was put on hold due to Florence.
Work resumed earlier this week because dredging craft, moved to safe harbor during the storm, have since returned to continue operations.
This $34 million beach re-nourishment project along the Grand Strand includes approximately eight miles on Myrtle Beach, four miles on Surfside and Garden City Beaches and two miles on North Myrtle Beach.
The deadline for completing the project is no later than December 15.
