Ocean Rig Poseidon, a sixth generation deepwater drillship, has started drilling on the Chariot-operated Central Blocks license offshore Namibia.
Chariot is the operator of the license with a 65% interest and its partners are Azinam with a 20%, NAMCOR with 10%, and Ignitus with the remaining 5% interest.
Chariot secured the Ocean Rig-owned drillship to drill its Namibian prospect back in June and the drillship was mobilized to its drilling location last week.
Chariot announced it started drilling of Prospect S well in Namibia on Monday, October 1. The drilling operation is expected to last around 40 days.
The Prospect S well has been strategically designed to test multiple zones including Aptian, Albian and Cenomanian-Turonian stacked targets within an overall structural closure.
The 6th generation deepwater drillship Ocean Rig Poseidon, of a Saipem 10000 design, was built in 2011 by the Samsung Heavy Industries Shipyard in South Korea. The rig has dual activity capabilities and is equipped for drilling operations in water depths from 500 to 3,000 meters.
