A brand new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier being built for Japan’s Tokyo Gas was named on Wednesday at the Tsu shipyard of Japan Marine United Corporation.
The 165,000-cbm LNG carrier named “Energy Glory” is jointly owned by NYK and Tokyo LNG Tanker, a unit of Tokyo Gas.
This is the third vessel to be jointly owned by NYK and Tokyo LNG Tanker.
After delivery, the 299.9m long ship will be mainly used for shipping LNG from the Dominion Cove Point project in the United States. NYK and Tokyo Gas previously signed a 20-year charter deal for the vessel.
This new carrier is equipped with a self-supporting prismatic-shaped IMO type-B design developed by IHI Corporation.
“The design allows for robust propulsion and reduced fuel consumption, and comes with a tri-fuel diesel electric propulsion system that can use low-sulfur fuel oil,” NYK said in a statement.
The tank will be fitted inside the ships’ hull, allowing for favorable front views from the vessel’s bridge as well as reduced wind resistance, it said.
