On Monday, 8th October, ground investigation survey work will start in Musselburgh, East Lothian, Scotland, to assess the existing ground make-up and groundwater levels – as part of the Musselburgh Flood Protection Scheme.

Contractors Raeburn Drilling will be carrying out the work on behalf of the project team, which will involve 15 boreholes and five trial pits alongside both the River Esk and Pinkie Burn.

The works will take place over nine weeks and are expected to be completed before Christmas, East Lothian Council said in its latest announcement.

Two teams will be carrying out the works with one team working on four boreholes within the grounds of Pinkie St. Peters school and the second team working on boreholes and trial pits at the mouth of the River Esk.

The teams will then work their way up the Esk where locations have been strategically chosen to maximize the potential for valuable information to be gathered, whilst minimizing the potential for impact on the town.
