Multipurpose Sea Cargo Complex Bronka (MSCC), a major port complex under development in the Port of St. Petersburg, Russia, plans to include LNG bunkering services for ships into its offering.
Namely, Nikolai Negodov, General Director of Fenix LLC, Bronka operator, signed a Memorandum on Cooperation with Mikhail Likhachev, General Director of Gazprom Gas-Engine Fuel, on 3 October 2018 at the 8th St. Petersburg International Gas Forum (SPIGF 2018).
The two parties plan to explore the sale of LNG as bunker fuel at the port complex. The duo will jointly implement activities aimed at creating infrastructure for LNG bunkering at MSCC Bronka, for both sea and river vessels. The parties also agreed to cooperate in promotion of LNG as vehicle fuel to reduce the negative impact of transport on environment.
Under the MoU, Gazprom Gas-Engine Fuel will look into the possibility of providing natural gas for motor transport operating at MSCC Bronka.
MSCC Bronka is a new deepwater terminal which started operation in 2015 after its first stage of development was completed. The current capacity of the terminal is 1.45 million TEUs and 260,000 units of Ro-Ro cargoes.
The second stage of the terminal’s expansion will help increase the facility’s container throughput to 1.9 million TEUs. Upon completion of the port’s construction, MSCC Bronka will be able to accommodate Post-Panamax containerships and ferries of Finnstar class. The Bronka Complex will comprise three specialized facilities: a container terminal, a Ro-Ro terminal and a logistics center.
