German shipyard Meyer Werft on Monday began the transfer of the world’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fueled cruise ship AIDAnova from its Papenburg yard to Eemshaven in the Netherland.

The vessel, owned by AIDA Cruises will complete its final fit-out at Eemshaven as well as sea trials, according to the shipyard.

AIDA Cruises is scheduled to take over the new LNG-fueled ship from the Meyer Werft shipyard on November 15, in Bremerhaven.

The AIDAnova will have over 2,600 passenger cabins, with a gross tonnage of over 180,000, a length of 337 meters and a width of 42 meters.

It is the world’s first cruise ship that can be powered by LNG both at sea and in port.

Two further AIDA ships of this new generation will be built by 2023 – also at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg.
