Transocean cheers new rig deals

Transocean has won a number of new contracts for its drillships and semi-submersible drilling rigs, which will operate in Canada, UK, China, Mexico, Norway, and Malaysia.

Offshore driller Transocean has won a number of new contracts for its drillships and semi-submersible drilling rigs, which will operate in Canada, UK, China, Mexico, Norway, and Malaysia.

In its latest fleet status report issued on Monday, October 22 Transocean said that the semi-submersible drilling rig Henry Goodrich has been awarded a one-year contract extension with Husky offshore Eastern Canada. The contract, with a dayrate of $275,000, is set to end in November 2019.

Paul B. Loyd, Jr. semi-submersible rig has been awarded a two-well contract by BP, which is expected to start in March 2019 plus four one-well options in the U.K. North Sea. The contract, for which the dayrate has not been disclosed, starts in March and ends in August 2019.

The rig is currently working on Finlaggan development wells in the UK North Sea for Zennor Petroleum. This deal will expire in December 2018.

Transocean’s drillship Dhirubhai Deepwater KG2 has won a three-well contract with CNOOC off China, which is expected to start in February 2019 and end in June 2019. The contract also includes plus two one-well options. The drillship is in idle state as of October.

The semi-submersible drilling rig Transocean Leader has been awarded a three-well contract in the UK North Sea by Hurricane Energy. The contract starts in February and ends in July 2019. Currently, the rig is under contract with EnQuest until December 2018.

Deepwater Asgard drillship has won a one-well contract by an unnamed operator for operations offshore Mexico. This deal starts in March 2019 following completion of the rig’s current contract with Murphy Oil in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. The contract is scheduled to end in May 2019.

In Norway, Equinor has exercised a one-well option for the Transocean Spitsbergen semi-sub rig. The rig’s dayrate between January and March 2019 will be $236,000 and from May until July 2019 it will be $276,000.

Over in Malaysia, Shell has exercised a one-well option for the Deepwater Nautilus semi-submersible, which is set to be completed in January 2019.
