The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted Faroe Petroleum a drilling permit for an appraisal well in the North Sea offshore Norway.
The well 31/7-3 S will be drilled from the Transocean Arctic semi-submersible drilling rig after concluding the drilling of wildcat well 30/6-30 for Faroe Petroleum Norge in production license 825.
The drilling program for well 31/7-3 S relates to the drilling of an appraisal well in production license 740 in a prospect called Brasse Øst (Brasse East), the NPD said on Wednesday.
Faroe Petroleum Norge is the operator with an ownership interest of 50 per cent. The other licensee is Point Resources (50 per cent). The area in this licence consists of part of blocks 31/7 and 30/9. The well will be drilled about 10 kilometers south of the Brage field.
Production license 740 was awarded on February 7, 2014 (APA 2013). This is the fifth well to be drilled in the license.
Earlier in October Faroe secured safety consent from the offshore safety body, the Petroleum Safety Authority, to drill the well 31/7-3 S with the Transocean Arctic semi-sub.
The well was planned to start in October 2018 and last at least 38 days in a water depth of 124 meter.
