Jenkins Marine’s self-propelled spud leg pontoon utility vessel Doreen Dorward is currently working in Portsmouth harbor in Hampshire, England, the Poole based dredging contractor said in their latest announcement.

The project is being conducted for Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, in preparation for the installation of some new heritage pontoons, to allow the addition of more historic vessels at the site – part of the National Museum of the Royal Navy.

“ The delicate work was watched by thousands of visitors, especially last week over the half term holidays, and is being carried out immediately adjacent to HMS Warrior, Britain’s first iron-hulled, armored battleship when launched in 1860, and the newest member of The National Museum of the Royal Navy’s fleet, ” said Jenkins.

The work will see about 8,000m³ of spoil dredged, with disposal to the Nab tower disposal site by Jenkins’ own self propelled split hopper barges NAB and Needles.

The Portsmouth cleanup program is expected to last about 2 weeks, according to Jenkins.
