50Hertz and Energinet have accomplished the 24 hours tests of both of the offshore cables connecting the Danish platform of the Kriegers Flak windpark with the German platform Baltic 2.

One after another, the two cables were energised and are now ready to transport the electricity.

“Everyone in the team, from NKT, our colleagues from the Regional Center North, the platform operator EnBW and the Danish TSO Energinet, worked closely together and delivered to-the-point. We are very happy and celebrate this success together,” said Sebastian Wagner , sub-project manager Sea cables 50Hertz.

The Kriegers Flak – Combined Grid Solution (CGS) project will establish the world’s first offshore interconnection by linking the Danish and the German transmission grids in combination with the infrastructure of offshore wind farm grid connections.

The European Commission has designated the interconnection as a Project of Common Interest (PCI). Additionally, the interconnector project is subsidised by the European Energy Programme for Recovery.
