LNG shipping major Teekay LNG said on Thursday that four ice-class carriers which will serve the Novatek-operated Yamal LNG project in Russia will be delivered earlier than planned.
The Arc-7 LNG carriers, Nikolay Yevgenov, Vladimir Voronin, Georgiy Ushakov and Yakov Gakkel will be delivered next year on June 4, Aug. 9, Oct. 11 and Nov. 25, respectively, Teekay said in its quarterly report.
This is earlier three to five months than previously scheduled.
Teekay LNG has a 50 percent stake in each of the LNG carriers that have a capacity of 172,000 cbm. They are being built at South Korea’s shipbuilding giant Daewoo.
Currently, there are seven ARC7 LNG carriers serving the giant Yamal LNG project in the Russian Arctic. The Russian Arc7 classification means that a vessel is capable of traversing waters north of Russia without the help of icebreakers.
In total, there will be fifteen ice-class carriers servicing the $27 billion Yamal LNG project.
Initial Yamal LNG project’s capacity is 16.5 million tonnes per year from three trains with 5.5 million tonnes capacity, each.
The project is currently producing the chilled fuel from two trains with the third unit expected to be launched by the end of this year.
