Chinese wind turbine maker Goldwind has launched three newly-developed smart offshore wind turbines including a model with a capacity of 8MW, and a model with the largest rotor diameter in the world.

The three models are the large capacity GW168-8MW, the large rotor offshore GW184-6.45MW, and the typhoon-adaptive and low-wind-speed offshore GW168-6.45MW.

After the launch of GW3S and GW6S offshore platforms and with years of accumulation, Goldwind has independently developed the GW168-8MW offshore smart wind turbine, applicable to wind class IEC I.

It is currently the largest offshore wind turbine in terms of capacity in China, Goldwind said. The turbine has a rotor diameter of 168 metres, and the installation of the first prototype is expected in the second half of next year.

In addition to the 8MW model, Goldwind also released the large rotor offshore GW184-6.45MW, and the typhoon-adaptive and low-wind-speed offshore GW168-6.45MW.

The GW184-6.45MW model has set a new record with the largest rotor diameter in the world, Goldwind said.
