Singapore-based Saga LNG Shipping has received an approval in principle from China Classification Society (CCS) for an 80,000-cbm liquefied natural gas carrier.

This ship includes a patented LNG tank system named LNT A-Box developed by LNT Marine and will have a shallow draft of nine meters.

Saga LNG’s and LNT Marine’s chief David Wu told LNG World News earlier this month that Saga LNG plans to order an 80,000-cbm carrier in the first quarter next year to serve a planned government-backed LNG project on the Yangtze River in China.

Saga LNG sees a growing interest in China for small to mid-sized LNG carriers.

The company is working with a Chinese design house to develop a 28.500-cbm carrier that will be able to transport LNG to the city of Wuhan and a 12,000-cbm vessel that will ship the fuel to Yichang.
