GE Grid Solutions has won a contract to design, supply and install the high voltage equipment for the Inch Cape offshore wind project in Scotland.
The Stafford-based team will be in charge of providing the proposed onshore substation near Cockenzie and offshore high voltage substation platform, as well as the electrical system design and manufacture of primary equipment components, including main transformers.
Inch Cape Offshore Limited (ICOL) plans to announce the marine package and wind turbine generator suppliers in due course.
GE Grid Solutions will work collaboratively with a consortium of NKT and Boskalis Subsea Cables & Flexibles, who will deliver and install an export cable system for the 784MW project.

We are satisfied that we have achieved the right balance and would encourage local suppliers to maximise the opportunities that will be available to them,” said Ian Johnson , ICOL Project Manager.
“Our preferred suppliers will rely on local businesses to help them achieve and deliver elements of the construction packages. These supply chain events will give smaller, tier two and three suppliers a chance to learn more about the project and opportunities to secure contracts, as well as how to navigate the complex procurement process.”
Inch Cape will comprise up to 72 turbines installed some 15km off the Angus coastline in Scotland. The construction of the 784MW project is expected to begin in 2020.
ICOL is 100% owned by the Edinburg-based Red Rock Power, which is in turn owned by China’s SDIC Power Holdings.
