Finnish LNG company Gasum said its compatriot postal and logistics service company Posti has taken into service two full trailer combinations powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Posti will be using the LNG vehicles for transport operations on routes including Vantaa–Oulu, Vantaa–Lappeenranta and Vantaa–Turku.
The company aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in proportion to net sales by 30 percent by 2020.
The vehicles will cover a daily distance of around 900 km, which is long enough to measure fuel consumption and savings compared with diesel, Gasum said in its statement.
“Our target is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in proportion to net sales by 30% by 2020. To reach this target, we need several different measures, and one of these is using alternative fuels such as LNG,” said Noomi Jägerhorn , head of sustainability, Posti Group.
Gasum’s sales manager Juha-Matti Koskinen added that Posti has 40 biogas-fueled delivery vehicles in its fleet.
There are LNG filling stations in Vantaa, Helsinki, Jyväskylä and Turku, Finland, Gasum notes, adding that LNG-powered trucks run on liquefied natural gas or biogas.
