Shelf Drilling, one of the world’s largest jack-up rig owners, has secured a contract extension for its Trident XIV jack-up rig.

The one-year extension is in direct continuation of the jack-up rig’s current contract and is for workover operations in Nigeria. The contract should keep the rig busy until February 2020.

While Shelf Drilling did not mention the name of the client in its announcement on Tuesday, the rig owner’s website data shows the rig is currently working for ExxonMobil.

According to the company’s fleet status report, the current contract with Exxon started in February 2018, and expires February 2019, when the new extension is expected to kick in. ExxonMobil will have an option to extend the contract for a further one year.

Worth noting, of the 39 jack-ups in Shelf Drilling’s fleet, the Trident XIV is the only one drilling for ExxonMobil.

David Mullen , Chief Executive Officer, Shelf Drilling, said: “We are very pleased to have the opportunity to extend the Trident XIV contract in Nigeria. We see this contract extension as a further strengthening of our relationship with a highly valued customer in a very important market.”
